This beginner’s course is ideal for preparing for travel or work commitments, as you learn the basics of the language. Grammatical and phonological elements will be introduced as you start working on your French speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. No prior knowledge of the language is required.
We aim to teach you the basics of French language communication, including: making introductions, learning to count and reciting the French alphabet. This beginner’s level course will prepare you for travel and simple every-day interactions.
By the end of this course, you should be able to:

By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- read the Greek alphabet
- read and write basic sentences in Greek
- extend your Greek vocabulary to enable communication of basic requests and responses
- exchange basic greetings in Greek, introduce yourself and others, ask and respond to questions about personal details such as name, nationality, family, work and pastimes
- describe family members and use appropriate phrases at social occasions
- ask for and give directions using a map of a Greek city or town
- use numbers in a variety of situations, shopping, and concepts of time

This beginner's course covers Integrated Chinese, Volume 1, Lessons 1 to 2, and is taught over ten weekly sessions of two hours per week.
This course aims to:
- introduce the first year of study and 70 vocabulary items
- cover the basics with simple, graded activities on essential topics such as greetings, family etc.
- introduce basic grammatical structures
- position pinyin close to characters so you can focus on speaking and pronunciation
- introduce the system of character writing---hanzi, as a guide to literacy.
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- master the Chinese phonetic system and read Chinese pinyin with correct pronunciation and tone
- discuss 70 vocabulary items and recognise around 80 Chinese characters
